Successful Canyon MWA Debut in the UK

Mermaid Medical successfully introducing Ablation services in the UK with the Canyon MWA system. Collaborating with The Grange University Hospital, Mermaid Medical had a live trial of the Canyon MWA system.

Serving as the primary Ablation service provider for Wales population of 3 million, The Grange University Hospital, situated on the outskirts of Newport in South Wales, has consistently delivered essential healthcare services to the community. The hospital boasts a team of three notable consultants—Nimit Goyal, Chris Williams, and Chris Chick—specializing in liver and lung ablations, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in patient care.

The live trial, conducted last week, proved to be a loud success. On the opening day of the trial, Wednesday the 25th, the team accomplished a liver ablation led by Chris Williams and a lung ablation performed by Nimit Goyal. Both procedures utilizing the Canyon MWA system garnered exceptional feedback, attesting to the system's efficacy. Mermaid Medical's representative played a pivotal role, serving as the clinical expert, offering insights, addressing queries, and providing comprehensive training to the IR nurses on the setup of the Canyon MWA system. This intensive effort ensured the seamless execution of operations and the maintenance of patient care standards.

Building upon the success, the team proceeded to execute two more liver ablations on Friday the 27th, with the final ablation carried out by Chris Chick. Once again, the Canyon MWA system garnered high praise, particularly for its robust construction and the precision of its needle, solidifying the decision of all three consultants to fully transition to the Canyon system.

With The Grange University Hospital poised to become the focal point of reference, IR consultants from various hospitals across the UK are expected to benefit from the knowledge exchange and learning opportunities made available.

Looking ahead, Mermaid Medical has plans to collaborate closely with The Grange University Hospital in establishing a pioneering thyroid ablation service next year. As part of this proactive initiative, Nimit and a colleague are scheduled to visit Spain, gaining valuable insights into the details of thyroid ablation procedures using the Canyon MWA system.
